International Partnerships
Kenya collaborates with over 15 international space agencies and organisations, leveraging our strategic equatorial location and 60-year space heritage to build partnerships that benefit all of humanity.
Space is inherently global. No single nation can fully explore and utilise space alone. Kenya's partnerships span five continents, from bilateral agreements with leading space agencies to multilateral participation in UN space governance.
Our equatorial location makes Kenya a uniquely valuable partner. The Malindi Ground Station provides tracking coverage that no other ground station can offer, supporting missions for Europe, Japan, India, and beyond.
Key Partners
Long-standing partnership through the Broglio Space Centre. ESA uses Kenya's Malindi facility for satellite tracking and data relay. Joint programmes in Earth observation and capacity building.
Cooperation in Earth science, satellite data sharing, and STEM education. NASA provides training opportunities for Kenyan scientists through the SERVIR programme for environmental monitoring.
JAXA supported Kenya's first satellite, 1KUNS-PF, deploying it from the International Space Station in 2018. Ongoing collaboration in satellite technology development and astronaut training programmes.
India-Kenya space cooperation includes satellite data sharing, remote sensing applications for agriculture and disaster management, and capacity building for space technology development.
Italy's historic partnership with Kenya, dating to the 1964 San Marco programme, continues through the Broglio Space Centre operations and joint research in ionospheric science.
Kenya actively participates in UN COPUOS and benefits from UNOOSA programmes including Space4SDGs, using space technology to advance the Sustainable Development Goals.
Kenya is a founding contributor to the African Space Agency and the African Space Policy. KSA works with continental partners to develop a unified African approach to space development.
France-Kenya cooperation in Earth observation, climate monitoring, and training of Kenyan space engineers at CNES facilities and the International Space University.
